Our work at PurposeWorks is not just about career change or changing jobs. Sometimes, it is about discovering what you are excited about – your purpose – and discovering that where you are right now is exactly where you need and want to be. Something just needs to shift…in you.
Maybe where you are right no
w is hard. You may not be getting along with co-workers or a boss. The work is difficult and you are questioning your abilities. The workload is almost to much take? In my career, all of these have happened to me. Frankly, everyone I know has experienced all the above in their job at some point in time.
It is only human to look at our external circumstances and say, “If my co-worker would stop doing ‘that’ or “If my boss would just do ‘this or that’ my job would be easier.” And, after-hours, there may be a fair amount of ruminating about how some incident at work went down.
I hate when this happens to me! All that time wasting energy sucking the life out of me when I could have been reading a good book, laughing at a funny movie with my husband or writing. In those moments, I made a choice to let that incident come home with me, ruin my evening and, by the next morning, I’m in a worse mood than the day before. Which totally increases my chances of having another work encounter that is not to my benefit or the benefit of those around me.
For the holidays, my sister gave me Marianne Williamson’s THE LAW OF DIVINE COMPENSATION: On Work, Money and Miracles. I am reading it again for the second time this week. It is truly that inspiring! In the preface, Marianne says:
“…If your mind is in a loving place – if your thoughts are of a high, divine vibration – your experience will reflect that. If your mind is in a fearful place – if your thoughts are of a lower, dense vibration – your experience will reflect that. The way to change the nature of your experience is to change the nature of your thoughts.
Seeking to solve a problem merely on the level of effect is not a true solution but only a temporary fix. Only when we address the level of cause – the thoughts that caused the original deviation from love – do we produce miraculous and fundamental results. By remembering what is real while in the presence of the unreal, we miraculously transform a problem on the level of its cause. A miracle is a shift in perception from fear to love – from a belief in what is not real, to faith in that which is. That shift in perception changes everything.”
What does all this mean and how is it applicable to you and your current job or joblessness? It means everything. When we shift our thoughts from anger and blame to compassion and possibilities, our eyes are opened to opportunities we may never have imagined. When we find the courage to shift our thoughts towards possibility instead of lack, we transform relationships at work, open the way to collaboration and make the cause for new career developments and exciting prospects.
We are in total control of our internal and external experiences – because we get to choose how to think and react to them. Knowing and practicing this makes all the difference…especially at work and during career transitions.
